Daniel and the Lions' Den

Daniel was a man who loved God. He was also liked by King Darius, ruler of the kingdom where

Daniel lived. He liked Daniel so well that he was going to make him the next king.

But, there were other men who did not want Daniel to become king. They were jealous that the king

liked Daniel so much. They wondered what they could do to trap Daniel and turn the king against him. They decided that

they would watch him closely and try to catch him doing bad things. The men watched Daniel day and night, but they could

not find Daniel doing any bad things. They did notice, however, that Daniel was always praying to his God. He prayed three

times a day. The men came up with an idea! They would make a law against praying and have the king sign it! So,

the men made the law and the king signed it.

Daniel was very sad when he heard about the new law. When the king had signed the law, he didn't know what that the

men were trying to trick Daniel. But, since it was a law, the king couldn't change it.

Daniel decided that he would not stop praying to his God. He decided that even if he had to die, he would always

be true to God.

When Daniel went home, he opened his window and began to pray, the way he did every day. But the men who had

made the law were watching him. The hurried off to go tell the king that they had caught Daniel praying.

The king was very sad when he heard about Daniel, and he was very angry with the men who had tricked him! He knew

now why they wanted that law made. The king new that he could not break his word and said that since Daniel

broke the law, he would have to be thrown in the den of lions. The king was very sad. The men who had tricked Daniel,

however, were very happy! Soldiers went and arrested Daniel and took him to the lions' den. The men who had

made the law laughed and told Daniel that he'd

better pray for his God to save him now! Daniel said nothing. When the stone was rolled back from the den the king told

Daniel that he hoped his God would take care of him. The soldiers then put Daniel into the lions' den.

That night, the king couldn't eat or sleep. He kept thinking about Daniel in the lions' den. He couldn't bear to think of his

friend Daniel being torn to pieces by those hungry lions.

When morning came, the king hurried to the lions' den, and so did the men who had caught Daniel praying. The king had

the stone rolled away and the king called inside to Daniel. He said "Did your God take care of you?"

Daniel answered, "He did!"

The king ordered for the soldiers to get Daniel out of the den of lions and to throw the men that had tricked him into

the den! The king then decided to make a new law that everyone in his kingdom would worship Daniel's God!
